Hunger ratios in South Africa are on an upward trajectory with more than 23% of households facing hunger every day. Additionally, unemployment rates are at a record high of 32.8%,
When disaster, distress, hunger or any other kind of emergency strikes, it often leaves people destitute without any food and shelter. In most cases, these humanitarian needs are met by good-hearted companies, organisations and individuals scrambling to organise food such as canned food, maize meal, vegetables and fruit. The challenge, however, is what food to buy and in what volumes to ensure that those in need receive a well-balanced nutritional meal.
Gluten free, low-GI and nutritionally complete.
GENESIS Nutritional Products is in the ideal position to fill this gap. Since 2013, the company has been delivering nutritious instant meals in response to disaster situations and emergencies here in South Africa and the rest of Africa.
Functional food from R3 per meal.
According to Michelle Bristow, founder and CEO of GENESIS, donating healthy, nutritionally complete meals has never been as easy and cost-effective. “GENESIS has taken all the guess work out when it comes to these situations. Instead of buying many individual items liked canned food, maize meal, vegetables, fruit, etc., simply buy Genesis’ products. Our nutritional food can be supplied from as little as R3 per meal, containing 55 key nutrients. One will have to look long and hard to find a more affordable complete and nutritious meal.”
Each GENESIS meal contains the equivalent of two slices of low GI high fibre whole grain bread, 1½ eggs, healthy fat like that found in avocado, 13 vitamins which is equivalent to eating a fruit salad, (more than 5 portions of fruit and veg a day), prebiotics, Omega-3 fatty acids and many more. Compared to maize meal, Genesis meals have three times more protein and three times more fibre. Genesis meals also keeps you fuller for longer, on average for 4-6 hours.
“GENESIS instant meals need no mixing or cooking. All that needs to be added is water or milk to create a great tasting meal. The all-encompassing meal requires no additional supplementation and nourishes every cell in the body, from your head to your toes.”
The beauty of GENESIS is that the easy, cost effective product is not only for those in need. “It is important that we supply not only those in need with quality, nutritious meals, but also our own families. Genesis is a more nutritional meal than most of the other functional foods that can be found on our shop shelves.”

GENESIS Nutritional Products – Expertly developed nutritional meals boosted by 20+ years of experience
GENESIS’ functional meals were carefully developed over two years by Michelle who has more than 20 years’ public and private sector experience as a dietician and is well acquainted with developing nutritionally balanced meals to feed people in disaster and distressed situations. She has gone on many local and overseas missions, including war-torn zones and disaster areas affected by floods, fires, earthquakes, etc.
GENESIS meals have been extensively distributed in African countries such as Somalia, Yemen, Mozambique and Malawi. But going by the desperate situation, much more must be done to provide nutritional, emergency meals like GENESIS to those that need it most. According to World Vision hunger in Africa is increasing at an alarming rate. Their data shows that in 2019, 250 million people (or 20% of the population) were experiencing hunger. World Vision says the situation is worsening due to the COVID-19 pandemic, conflict, draught, economic woes, and extreme weather .
Here in South Africa, GENESIS also assists where the opportunity arises. With the devastating impact of COVID-19 on an already weak economy and rising levels of unemployment, the need to feed the hungry and malnourished is becoming more critical by the day. In recent times, GENESIS has distributed meals in the aftermath of the Cape Town fires in April and also helped those affected by the drought in the Northern and Eastern Cape. Hence, it comes as no surprise that GENESIS frequently teams up with the Gift of the Givers Foundation – the largest disaster response non-governmental organisation in Africa – in supplying nutritional meals to disaster affected situations.
OUTsurance donates 200 000 GENESIS meals to 9 charities
GENESIS recently joined hands with OUTsurance to supply meals to nine charities across South Africa. The partnership involves OUTsurance’s donation of about 200 000 meals with distributions to the charities starting in June and expected to last until the end of March 2022.
“OUTsurance is a perfect example of how a company can come on board in assisting those in need. In Genesis they have found a well-balanced nutritional meal they feel confident in supplying to these charities. We hope that other companies, organisations and individuals will consider GENESIS as their food-distribution partner when the next disaster or emergency situation arises.”

“I have seen too many people, especially in impoverished communities, being fed empty calories. It is our passion to see South Africa develop into a healthy country,” says Michelle Bristow, Genesis Nutritional Products’ CEO.”
